Columbus Slot Review & Guide Online

Columbus Slot Review & Guide Online

April 29, 2019 Off By Dan James Pantone

This slot was originally one of Novomatic’s most popular brick and mortar slots. Due to the games popularity, the software developer decided to take the slot virtual and recreate it for the online market.  Columbus has been kept as true to the original as possible, with the same layout and graphics that players are familiar with. Columbus has five reels and only nine paylines, with a wide wager range to suit all budgets.

This is a simple slot, without a progressive jackpot or a second screen bonus round. It will probably not appeal to experienced players or high rollers as it does not really offer you the chance to either become a millionaire or be entertained for hours.

Familiar Graphics

The graphics in the online version of Columbus are the same ones as in the brick and mortar version. This was done deliberately to create a feeling of familiarity by Novomatic. It does mean that the graphics for this slot are nothing exceptional, with your bass drawing style that is found in so many other slots.

The only added detail to Columbus is that the online slot has been done in a 3D box to make it look like you are playing on a real brick and mortar machine with a recessed screen.

The soundtrack has absolutely nothing to do with the theme, and is the same one that is in so may other Novomatic slots. The sounds are typical jangly slot sounds that will most likely cause a facial twitch within the first few minutes.

Explorer Theme and Symbols

The theme for Columbus is of course the great explorer Christopher Columbus who supposedly discovered the New World, or America. The slot is full of symbols representing both his life and his trade, which are set against a rather non descript brown background that may or may not be wood.

The symbols themselves have enough detail in them to be okay to look at, but definitely not enough to hold your attention or change your world. On the reels we find the base symbols from a deck of cards, which have been done in a font that looks vaguely historic.

The rest of the symbols are theme based, with things like a sextant, a gold necklace, Queen Isabella who was Columbus’s lover, and Columbus himself. Not surprisingly the games highest paying symbol is Columbus himself who is also the games wild symbol.

Columbus Special Features

Columbus the slot is rather thin on the special features front. A wild symbol which is Columbus himself replaces any other symbol in the game except for the scatter ships. This helps to create wining lines and thus increases win potential. This game is as popular as the blackjack, slots and even the online roulette Australia offers players.

The games free spins round is launched by finding one of each of his ships on reels three, four and five. These three ships, the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria were famously the ships he sailed with when he discovered America.

These ships each have their own line, but do come up quite regularly together. Finding these three ships will award you with 10 free spins. The ships also become wild during the free spins round. This feature can be retriggered during the round which can result in many more than ten free spins.
