Photograph of a Quecha weaver
in the town of Chinchero, near the City of Cusco, Peru. Note the house
made out of adobe and stone with a thatched roof. Perhaps surprisingly to
some, the trees in the background are not native, but rather eucalyptus trees
imported from Australia. This image was taken in the 1960s and
photographer Chuck Clark was one of the few Americans who visited Chinchero in
that epoca. Currently Chinchero has become a tourist attraction with the
Peruvian government actually charging an admission fee for tourists to enter the
upper part of the town where there is a church and ancient Inca ruins.
